Project Spotlight:

Summit is working on a District 4 highway construction project in Berkeley, California. This project includes over 8,000 tons of material. With 4,890 cubic yards of ADL roadway excavation material (Type Z-2) and 613 cubic yards of structure excavation material (Type Z-2).

The Scope includes the following:

  • Site Investigation, Sampling & Waste Profiling.
  • Transportation and Waste Disposal Services.
  • Plan preparation, ADL training, and onsite monitoring.

The project aims to reduce traffic congestion, queues, merging, and turn conflicts on Gilman Street between West Frontage Road and Second Street through the I-80 interchange. The project will also improve pedestrian and bicycle safety by building and improving existing pedestrian and bicycle facilities. These improvements include new sidewalks, ADA compliant curb ramps, cycle track, shared-use paths, and a pedestrian over-cross. These provide a safer and more direct connection to the existing San Francisco Bay Trail.

We are so grateful for the opportunities we have been given. Summit continues to do its part in creating safer environments for our families and making strides toward improving our infrastructure efficiently.

The 2021-22 Infrastructure Bill doesn’t just include upgrading bridges, railroads, and roads. It is easy to forget that utilities also need to be upgraded and play a significant role in our infrastructure. Even if we don’t see them daily, we use them daily.

Depending on the material, sewer lines can last anywhere from 30 to 100 years. In 2014 sewer lines in LA averaged 58 years old, with over 65% of the leaking pipes installed before 1950 (Position, Ben, et al., 2014). It is vital to continue these upgrades to protect our environment, communities, and families.

Outdated sewer lines can create many issues for the environment and the people in the communities it affects. This leakage could be an array of things. Depending on the materials, coal tar, asbestos, raw sewage, and other toxins could be leaking. These toxins are then released into the environment to wreak havoc.

Currently, the OC Feeder Project is helping to upgrade sewer lines to reduce the pollution in Newport Back Bay. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California said that “…this project was necessary to ensure Metropolitan can continue to provide reliable water supplies to its 26-member public agencies that serve 19 million people.”

This is only the start of the upgrades, and in this case, already 19 million have benefited from it. Summit will be alongside many projects in the coming year(s).

Summit’s history of working on public works infrastructure projects, while following all the government regulatory agency requirements, have given us the experience and confidence  to call ourselves experts in the services we provide:

  • Plan Preparation, Reports, Air Monitoring & Training
  • Site Investigation, Sampling & Waste Profiling
  • Material Profiling & Manifest Preparation
  • Excavation, Transportation & Disposal
  • Dewatering & Liquid Handling
  • GIS Services & 3-D Modeling

By removing and recycling environmental pollution both before and during construction, Summit is helping provide green, sustainable and a modern infrastructure, resulting in reduced air emissions and a more efficient public transportation system.

The current infrastructure system needs to be modernized to accommodate the increase in traffic we see every year for the safety of our communities and the longevity of our planet. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill is increasing new project opportunities and making the updates to our infrastructure system possible to better our roadways.

With having removed over 800k tons of contaminated soil, Summit has the experience and capabilities to cover the entire removal process. From initial plan preparation and sampling to transportation and disposal of hazardous materials.

Summit’s goal is to seamlessly integrate environmental services for public works infrastructure projects allowing the progression of our highways, ports and railroads to continue smoothly as we help create safer environments for both workers and communities.

Project Spotlight:

NOS 10 For The City of Los Angeles & Department of Public Works

Summit was awarded a contract from Spiniello Infrastructure West, Inc. to transport and dispose of 23,000 tons of contaminated and hazardous soil. This project is for the North Outfall Sewer (NOS) Rehabilitation Unit 10 for the City of Los Angeles and Department of Public Works.

Summit’s scope of work includes:

  • Plan Preparation – (HaSP & SAP)
  • Health and Safety Training
  • Material Sampling, Testing and Characterization
  • Waste Profiling and Manifesting
  • Transportation and Waste Disposal Services

This project includes a number of improvements that will increase the sewers reliability for decades to come. The work being done will involve removing, repairing and rehabilitating sewer pipelines to address deterioration and efficiency.

The North Outfall Sewer, which has served Los Angeles since the 1920’s, is in poor condition and needs to be modernized. This project will rehabilitate 5,000 feet of sewer pipes in addition to the repair & installation of maintenance holes and and installation of bypass structures.

The contaminated soil must be properly removed before construction. This protects both the health of the workers on the job site and those in the surrounding community.

Summit continues to do our part in creating safer environments for our families as well as make strides towards improving our infrastructure efficiently and cleanly.

Our green sustainable technology solutions are not only building more HOV lanes for natural gas vehicles and carpooling but also eliminating harmful toxins such as aerially deposited lead from highways, bridges, airports, seaports; prepping the future for resilient growth.
